The Slipper Orchids: Selenipedium, Phragmipedium, Criosanthes, Cypripedium, Paphiopedilum (the Collector’s edition limited to 100 copies signed by the author and artist)

Pp. vii, 263; 104 full page color plates from paintings by Esme F. Hennessy.  One quarter dark red oasis morocco over marbled boards by Peter Carstens with pictorial endpapers, in a heavy cloth and marbled paper leather-tipped slipcase as issued, sm folio (13 1/2 x 10 inches).  Loosely laid in at front is an original watercolor painting of Pahiopedium delinatii, signed on the verso by the artist and numbered 23/95.  This volume is no. 10 of 100 copies of the Collector’s edition signed by the co-authors on the limitation page.  The name of the subscriber, James Arthur Allchin, is neatly printed on the limitation page by the authors.  The paintings of the orchids by Esme F. Hennessy are extremely well executed.  This volume, for the first time, provides life-sized illustrations in color of all five genera of the Cypripedioideae.  These are among the most popular orchids in cultivation whose dominate characteristic is a large lower petal shaped like a sabot, clog, moccasin, shoe, or slipper.  This work is bound in an elegant binding with no signs of use.  No ownership marks.
