It was originally published in journal form over a six-year period. Name stamp of James E. Humphrey is the margins of some pages. James Ellis Humphrey (1861-1897) was an American botanist and mycologist graduated from Harvard University. Humphrey likely assembled the ten parts of this work. This book is from the private research collection of University of Michigan mycologist Alexander H. Smith with his signature pasted on the front endpaper.
