This is a detailed scientific account of the Class Aves with particular reference to the birds of Japan. This work was published as volume 10 in the series ‘Systematic Zoology’ edited by Toru Uchida. The text is in Japanese with Latin names used throughout; the bibliography is mostly in English and there is an index to Latin and common English names at the end of the volume. From the research library of ornithologist Oliver L. Austin (past Director of the Austin Ornithological Research Center in Wellfleet, Massachusetts and past Curator of Ornithology at the Florida Museum of Natural History), with his rectangular Japanese/English name-stamp seal on the front endpaper. Warmly inscribed by the author to Oliver Austin and his wife on the front endpaper. There is also an additional note from Kuroda to Austin stating that the author had written English translations of the Japanese in the Table of Contents and a few headings in the text. Laid in at the end of the volume is a two-page offprint authored by Kuroda concerning the 50th anniversary of the Japan Ornithological Society.
