Life and Death at the Pestera cu Oase: A Setting for Modern Human Emergence in Europe

Pp. xii, 435; ~325+ text-figures (color photos, color drawings, black-and-white photos, graphs, charts, line-drawings).  Publisher’s original dark blue cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine and front cover, 4to.  Peștera cu Oase meaning "The Cave with Bones," is a system of 12 karstic galleries and chambers located near the city Anina, in the Caraș-Severin county, southwestern Romania, where some of the oldest European early modern human remains, between 37,000 and 42,000 years old, have been found (modified after Wiki).  In addition, this site complex has yielded an abundance of cave bears and other Late Pleistocene mammals in southeastern Europe.  This monograph presents the cave systems and their dating and the vertebrate fauna.  In addition, it describes and compares the human findings with other early modern Homo sapiens from Europe and elsewhere.  No ownership marks and no signs of use.
